About Us

Polo, Since 600 b.c.

By the time the sport of polo arrived on Newport’s shores during the Gilded Age, it was already steeped in 2500 years of history & tradition, captivating newcomers as it swept the globe.  Newport’s summer sporting set embraced the new pastime, establishing America's first polo club in 1876.  A charter member of the United States Polo Association, Newport Polo remains a model polo club, hosting the Newport International Polo Series public exhibition matches for the community's enjoyment, supporting philanthropic causes, hosting tournaments, polo club member services and polo instruction year-round.

The Newport International Polo Series features teams from around the world & from major US cities competing against USA / Newport.  Planned for the upcoming season is an exciting lineup of action-packed polo matches, international team debuts and memorable special events for fun on and off the field, supported by an enthusiastic spectator audience.  See Schedule/Tickets for the complete list.

Dear Friends of Polo,                                                                                         2019

The spirit of polo has flourished in Newport since 1876 with the founding of America’s first polo club on our shores, where its roots have grown deep and its community-oriented ethos has enriched the fabric of life here.   It inspires our unbridled passion to fulfill all that our sport can be and uphold its relevance here as well as its fraternal ties that bring the world to our port with teams & tales from every continent.

The new season is an opportunity to direct and sustain our future with a watchful eye on developing future players from our polo school, fulfill our duty to champion the needs of our community, improve what we can and conserve the essence of this tradition.

We treasure these weeks with generations of families & friends that return year after year to share the polo experience with us.  There is no greater validation than your participation in the Polo Series as a part of your summer ritual.

Through hard work and dedicated individuals, we are able to extend our contributions to the community in various ways.  I applaud the volunteers of the many nonprofits that take part in our All Charity Day, as well the devoted auction committee of our annual charity gala, benefitting the extraordinary Newport Music Festival this year, and I salute the Newport Rotary Club and contributors at Newport This Week for their tremendous effort in producing this publication, whose advertising dollars support the Rotary’s many charitable programs.  I thank our sponsors without whom the Polo Series would not be as expansive.  Last but not least, I applaud the dedicated staff of the Newport International Polo Series with whom it is an honor to work.

Very Truly Yours,

Dan Keating, Captain
