2022 Holiday Letter

From Newport Polo President, Dan Keating.

Date: Wednesday, December 28, 2022

Dear Friends of Newport Polo,

After many months of planning and preparation, the past season unfolded in triumph over the roadblocks of the pandemic. Our audience returned in record numbers from Opening Day, and fair weather sustained the momentum for an exuberant summer in the City by the Sea.

But the year was not without challenges, particularly abroad on many fronts where people are struggling and fighting for freedom and democracy.

It makes us realize the importance of what the Polo Series was always meant to be, celebrating the universality of sport to the human experience. Especially when set against the darkness of war.

This coming year we plan to host Ukraine in doing a small part to keep them foremost in our awareness, to keep a light on these events and understanding they will need our assistance for a long time after this armed conflict is settled.

Since its earliest days, Rhode Island has expressed its mission with a symbol of hope..."hope we have as an anchor of the soul" endowing us with the strength to shoulder our challenges and stand for our beliefs. What greater source of hope than togetherness.

Thank you for surrounding the Polo Series with community, and giving each event the significance of witness and esprit de corps.  I bid our polo family here and around the world very Happy Holidays, good health and warmest wishes, and I look forward to seeing you on the field in the new year.
