The past year began with high-hopes and ambitious plans for a year to outshine all others, until the wrench of an unthinkable worldwide health crisis came hurtling in, but the timeless game of polo persisted in its American birthplace, and reached annual goals and accomplishments, thanks to the leadership through uncharted waters by our State and Town officials, and to unwavering support from our loyal fans.
The 9th annual Beach Polo exhibition at Sachuest Beach in Middletown, RI in February drew a record crowd and generous support for a new initiative to stock the pantry shelves of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Community Center. Volunteers collected 1,165 pounds of food and $268 in cash during the popular attraction on the closing weekend of the Newport Winter Festival.
Ad sales from the 26th edition of the Polo Season Program, which is produced in collaboration with the Rotary Club of Newport and Newport This Week, continued its annual cycle of bringing in thousands of dollars that fund the Rotary Club's local scholarship and international giving programs. Ad space was also generously donated to local businesses impacted by the pandemic, that have been past Rotary supporters as an extension of the community benefit.
The 20th annual International Polo Charity Ball, dubbed Bon Voyage Ball was postponed to Friday, August 6th, 2021, and remains sold out but for a few Cocktail Tickets, as the committee prepares for one of the most anticipated events of the summer polo season, with this year's honorees, the Dominican Republic Polo Team, and support the David Ortiz Children's Fund in providing life-saving medical treatment to children in New England and Dominican Republic.
Became the first spectator sport to resume in RI, hosting all 17 scheduled matches of the Newport International Polo Series.
Hosted a record 7 City Team rivals from up and down the Atlantic seaboard.
Featured Instant Replay on the Gallo Thomas Insurance Jumbotron throughout the season.
Showcased the first Herb Chambers Exotics Village automobile showcase and parade during the Finals.
Cheered the Newport Women's first win in the Battle of the Sexes.
Invited polo fans to Travel with Team USA on the Jamaican excursion.
Cultivated the Picnic Patch for a novel lawn picnic option.
Awarded 14 Stella Artois prizes for Best In Show with creative weekly themes & celebrity guest judges.
Captured 100 s of gameday fan portraits by resident photographer Cocoa & Co.
Threw 2nd 'Polo en Blanc' White Party for the Labor Day Classic.
Created 8 new Patio Bar sensations by The Cocktail Guru.
Raffled 7 weekly Door Prizes of Veuve Clicquot Champagne.
Introduced over 20 limited edition items in the Pro Shop's 2020 Sportswear & Jewelry Collection
Hosted 4 Audrain Automobile Museum Cars & Coffee events.
Staged the 11th Battle of the Ages.
Organized 7 arena polo tournaments, including 2 official United States Polo Association events, the National Sherman Memorial and Northeast Circuit Women's Arena Challenge, plus home games for Brown University intercollegiate team and Newport interscholastic team.
Brought home the Bronze in the USPA Interscholastic Girls Regional Tournament.
Opened an Indoor Training Center for winter polo instruction, club chukkers, and tournaments.
Graduated the 9th class of players from the summer Coaching League.
Recognized Clark Curtis -Sportsmanship and Luke Merrick - Most Improved Player with yearly Club Awards.
