This year, Newport Polo's charitable efforts contributed over $100,000 to local civic and non-profit organizations, surpassing a total of $1.5 million since 1992. Fundraising results from the 19th annual International Polo Charity Ball, plus benefit polo matches and ticket donations are among the long standing traditions that extend polo's good will throughout the community
Diamonds Are Forever captivated 450 supporters of the 19th annual International Polo Charity Ball at the famed Marble House mansion in Newport, RI where Silent and Live Auction proceeds netted a record amount of over $35,000 which benefitted the Newport Music Festival. The 2020 gala has just been announced, for Friday, August 7th, 2020.
All Charity Day: 20 civic and charitable organizations and more than 2,000 supporters flocked to the polo field on July 14th for the 4th annual All Charity Day benefit match. Newport Polo Club members staged a fast-paced match amidist enthusiastic boosters in tailgate parties circling the polo field. Participating groups raised over $22,000 through ticket sales, raffles, and other initiatives to support their missions.
The partnership between Newport Polo and the Rotary Club of Newport reached its 29th year. Ad sales for the polo Season Program combined with ticket sales for the annual Benefit Match on the last Saturday of May contributes tens of thousands of dollars each year to support the Rotary Club's local scholarship and international giving programs.
Hosted 6 City Teams, welcoming the return of Washington.
Organized an inaugural Pony Parade to launch the season at Bannister's Wharf on the Newport harborfront on the eve of Opening Day, followed by the traditional season kickoff party at Clarke Cooke House.
Presented $3,200 in prize money for the first time in US Women's Polo history during the 2nd Annual East Coast Open & Handicap Women's Polo Championships, Presented by Dechra.
Celebrated the Silver Anniversary of USA vs. Jamaica.
Promoted 7 distinctive Appearance Events around town with the International Teams.
Created 6 Modern Luxury Polo Lounge experiences.
Hosted 8 unique Aprés Polo field-side celebrations with the International Teams.
Awarded 18 Stella Artois Prizes for Best Weekly Tailgate.
Debuted over 25 new pieces in the Pro Shop's 2019 Sportswear & Jewelry Collection
Opened the Backline Bar for full-service beverages in the Discovery Zone.
Opened three new restrooms at the polo grounds.
Hosted 3 United States Polo Association Arena Polo Tournaments, including the National Sherman Memorial, Northeast Circuit Amateur Cup, and Northeast Circuit Women's Arena Challenge, plus 2 USPA-sanctioned international women's outdoor polo tournaments, East Coast Open & Handicap Women's Polo Championships, and several outdoor & arena Club Tournaments, home games for Brown U and Roger Williams U intercollegiate teams and Newport Interscholastic team.
Graduated a new class of players in the Coaching League.
Awarded recognition for Sportsmanship - Hamish Waites, and Most Improved Player - Roger Souto.
