Caribbean Queen Gala

Date: Friday, August 19, 2005

The social highlight of the polo season was the Newport Polo Club's International Polo Ball charity gala on Friday, August 19th, 2005. The annual gala takes place onboard the 'Caribbean Queen' and guests clad in tropical black tie wined, dined, and danced the night away during a starlit cruise of Newport's waters.

We are pleased that the Jamaican Polo Team joined in the celebration as special guests of honor. The Jamaican Polo Team is a crowd favorite here in Newport because of the excitement they deliver with a highly competitive contest. In Jamaica, generations of players have made contributions to the sport of polo on a global pedestal. This year they celebrate 100 years of polo memories played out at Drax Hall Polo Club in St. Ann, a milestone few polo clubs in the world can claim.

On Saturday, August 20th, the Jamaican Polo Team faced the USA in the Newport International Polo Series on the polo grounds at Glen Farm. Festivities followed the match, including award ceremonies and a jerk grill.

Proceeds from the gala benefited the Newport Polo Education Fund (NPEF), a non-profit 501[3]c organization registered in Rhode Island with a mission to support and develop training programs surrounding the sport of polo, for the endurance of this culturally significant sport here in its American birthplace and the tradition of International competition.
