The Newport Interscholastic Girls Polo team is the winner of the US Polo Association’s Northeast preliminary II polo tournament which took place over the weekend, and is the first RI team in history to advance to the National Interscholastic Championship Tournament next month.

This is a very heart warming horse story that should be told. Reckless was a pack horse during the Korean war, and she carried recoilless rifles, ammunition and supplies to Marines. Nothing too unusual about that, lots of animals got pressed into doing pack chores in many wars.

On an Indian summer afternoon with an audience of supporters, family and friends, the Newport and Yale interscholastic girls teams played a fast, open 4-chukker match at galloping speeds, while skillfully handling a string of polo ponies and demonstrating their polo prowess.

The Newport International Polo Series opened its 19th season on Saturday, June 5th at 5pm featuring USA playing against first-time challengers from the Dominican Republic, making its debut appearance in the Polo Series at the polo grounds of historic Glen Farm on the outskirts of Newport.
