USA vs. Argentina

Tailgate & Chalet Guidelines:

Located on the perimeter of the polo field, Tailgates and Chalets provide reserved, lawn seating areas in the front row, that you 'drive-to' and can park within, to picnic & spectate.  Chalet tents (10'x10') are provided in #53-79 on the polo field's north perimeter. Pop up your own tent* in #0-52. Lawn chairs and blankets are suggested. Up to 2 standard passenger cars may park in 0-52, and 1 standard passenger car allowed in 53-79; additional parking is within a few steps in General Parking. *Tents/Picnics/Grills

Admission: Tailgate or Chalet reservations do not include admission.  Each adult occupant of a Tailgate or Chalet will need a Lawn Pass or Lawn Ticket for Admission, sold separately online (from the previous page). Kids aged 15 & under are free.  To purchase Lawn Tickets for admission to this match, select 'Lawn Seating' on the previous page and enter the quantity of adult lawn tickets that you desire, and the ticket code from a Tailgate or Chalet reservation.

Reservation Changes: Newport Polo reserves the right to make adjustments to reservations, as necessary, including for compliance to the household Limit of 1 Tailgate/Chalet per match, and to safety mandates which may affect its regular venue layout, including but not limited to the location, spacing and occupancy for Tailgates & Chalets. Should such mandates be in effect, reservations will mirror venue adjustments. As an example, here is the adjusted venue diagram used in 2020. Review Terms and Conditions for more details.

"We'll have to bring our best game to match the world's greatest polo powerhouse,” explains Dan Keating, Polo Series Founder, "and our fans that voted for Argentina as the favorite to return to the Polo Series will not be disappointed."  The rivalry stands at 3 wins each, and a tie, going into double digits nearly every time, making each encounter nothing short of epic.

Gates Open at 1pm/Pavilion Opens at 4pm: to avoid last-minute entry traffic delays, enjoy pre-game refreshments, amplified music, games on the field, shopping and socializing.  The match will begin with national anthem(s), player introductions and Official Coin Toss.  Halftime intermission includes a stroll on the polo field for the divot stomp, a 'treading in' to replace divots, a time-honored tradition to repair the field for the second half.

Best in Show: Stella Artois toasts the most spirited Newport Polo fans at each match with prizes in the Stella Artois Best in Show contest. Judges will scout the venue to find the best bacchanal, including picnic decor, banquets, tablescapes & attire, awarding a coveted prize and Jumbotron moment of fame. This tradition is a tribute to our fans that continue to show their spirit and love of polo, earning Best Tailgating in New England from Yankee Magazine and for making the Newport Polo experience par excellence.  Our resident style photographer will capture souvenir portraits of festive parties, available from Cocoa & Co..

Hospitality & Amenities: During the match, the Patio Bar provides beverage service to tables within the Davitt Pavilion, and carry-out service, for patrons throughout the venue, offering a selection of specialty cocktails created by The Cocktail Guru, premium spirits, boutique wines, imported & craft malt beverages, and soft drinks, while the Veuve Clicquot Cart will be making the rounds with champagne & sparkling wine choices.  Licensed Gourmet Food Trucks dish out popular refreshments including handmade pizza, lobster rolls, delux hotdogs, charcuterie boards and premium desserts, while specialty vendors present exclusive gifts, and the Anniversary sportswear & souvenir collection is available exclusively in the fieldside Pro Shop.  See Hospitality & Amenities for details and menus.  Expert commentary of the polo action is provided over the PA, and instant replays and live-action are produced on the polo world's first Jumbotron.

Closing Ceremony: After 6 periods of competition, called chukkers, the match will conclude with a victory lap by the teams as they circle the field in the Newport Polo Fan Salute - a tradition originating at the Newport International Polo Series in 2003, and now emulated at polo clubs around the world - followed by the Veuve Clicquot Champagne Toast & Trophy Presentation, autograph signing, and an après polo cocktail hour celebration at the Patio Bar to conclude festivities. (Check our schedule for a possible après polo dinner TBA on this special occasion, to include with your ticket purchase.)

Keep Calm and Polo On.  Newport Polo was the first and only live sporting event to win State approval and navigate safely through the pandemic last year.  Since 600 b.c., polo, the world's oldest ball game, has withstood the tests of time throughout its storied history. First recorded in the 6th century b.c. when the Turkomans beat the Persians in a diplomatic tournament, the alluring game caught on with equestrian royalty and cavalry, and took off with globalization. By the time Polo arrived on Newport’s shores during the Gilded Age, the sport was nearly 2500 years steeped in tradition, captivating newcomers like Newport's summer sporting set who embraced the new pastime, establishing America's first polo club in 1876.  A charter member of the United States Polo Association the club today is still a trailblazing polo club, hosting the Newport International Polo Series public exhibition matches, supporting philanthropic causes, organizing tournaments, polo club member services, and polo instruction year-round. Experience the king of games in its American landing at Newport Polo.
