Newport Polo invites teams from around the Northeast Circuit of polo clubs to enter and compete in Autumn Arena polo tournaments scheduled on Fall weekends, for serious prize money & mantel trophies or friendly competition from rival clubs.
“We look forward to drawing the best competitors in the Northeast for exciting arena polo competition this season,” adds Leighton S. Jordan, USPA Northeastern Circuit Governor.
At America's First Polo Club, competition is in high gear at Newport Polo's outdoor arena & training facility in Newport County, Rhode Island. The regulation outdoor polo arena has professional footing, grading and night lighting for arena polo chukkers and lessons 6 days a week, October through November.
Both USPA Northeast Circuit Tournaments present an ideal forum for regional competition for arena polo players looking to continue their season of competition during the best time in New England to still play outdoors. Peak weather and Fall foliage color in Rhode Island is mid to late October. The Players Cup and Thanksgiving Cup are ideal holiday activities to team up friends & family members for a fun and social weekend in the destination.
Team Registration closes at 5pm on the Sunday prior to each tournament. The USPA Tournament Entry Fees are $300/team, which will include lunch and refreshments each competition day for all the players, a BBQ, and USPA professional umpire, plus $2,500 in cash prize money awarded to the finalists, winners trophies, MVP, Best Playing Pony and USPA Yearbook photo. The Club Tournament Entry Fee is $75/player, which will include refreshments each competition day for all the players and USPA certified umpire, plus winners trophies.
Typical competition schedule on Saturday features the two Semi Final Rounds, and Sunday features the Consolation and Championship matches. Social activities in town are often scheduled for the Saturday night of each tournament. Tournament brackets and schedule will be determined by live random draw on the Tuesday/Thursday prior to the tournament. The complete schedule will be finalized once all the teams have registered.
Teams are limited and encouraged to register early for one of 4-6 team positions. Horse leasing may be available upon advanced reservation.

About Newport Polo's Arena Polo Program: Having built its membership since 1992 almost entirely through its polo school, Newport Polo understood the value of a polo arena for club sustainability, and invested in a full size, regulation outdoor arena as the focal point of its training center when it relocated its headquarters in the early 2000's, and is one of the first polo clubs to install outdoor arena lights to extend use of the arena after sunset. It continues to invest in arena upgrades, including hardwired electronic scoreboard and PA system and regular arena resurfacing with footing materials and regrades for optimum playing conditions. Today, the arena offers polo 6 days/week in the spring and autumn, as well as a continual program through the summer, to maximize opportunities to play for its polo club members, organizing tournaments and chukkers, as well as beginner classes for up and coming new players, and hosting weekly training and home games for its interscholastic Varsity & JV teams, and intercollegiate teams including Brown U and Roger Williams U.
This year the club sustained a healthy influx of new members, that start with arena polo lessons before graduating to lessons on grass, then a Coaching League for chukkers on the grass, as part of a proven step-up program for advancing new players, among numerous other events and initiatives to support the growth of the sport and the sustainability of the Westchester Polo Club, America's first polo club, for future generations.
