Unlike their flightless namesake, the Kiwis are ready for liftoff and a jet-set extended weekend in Newport where they will receive a first-class reception as guests of honor at the Kia Ora Cosmic Ball on the eve of battle with Team USA in the Newport International Polo Series, Presented by Turkish Airlines. If you missed the player intros, get to know Team NZ here ahead of joining the Newport itinerary with the players for the best of the City by the Sea.
After traveling for 24 hours to reach Yankee shores, ROCKSTAR Limo will be at the ready for the team's ground transportation, carrying the players to a warm welcome from their Newport hosts, Vanderbilt International Properties, to get settled into team headquarters at their private lodging. An afternoon respite followed by dinner with the home team is in order for a quiet evening adjusting to the new time zone.
Their first full day on the ground will leave no shortage of activities and clear blue skies will be ideal to start the day touring the famous Bellevue Ave and Ocean Drive for sightseeing with Newport Jaguar Tours. Perfect flying conditions will provide miles of view on board the iconic red birds of Newport Helicopter Tours for an aerial tour before the players are returned to terra firma in time to gear up for the traditional friendship tournament. USA and New Zealand will convene at the practice field for a warm-up Friendship Tournament before the Saturday contest, allowing the visitors to get acquainted with their borrowed mounts. A relaxed field-side barbecue will give the players the chance to catch up when distance and time zones challenge keeping in touch.
Team New Zealand's daytime agenda includes a private sail with On Watch Sailing, before suiting up for a black tie social agenda to reach its crescendo when they top the charts as guests of honor at the Kia Ora Cosmic Ball, Presented by BD, benefiting The Jeffrey Osborne Foundation. A part of every day in Newport, one can't miss a stroll through Newport Mansions, Audrain Automobile Museum, and International Tennis Hall of Fame in the heart of the City by the Sea, giving context to the elegant affair at Newport's famed Rosecliff mansion in the evening for the gala, then a last dance at iconic Clarke Cooke House.
Saturday brings the highly anticipated rematch when USA takes on New Zealand for the third time in the Newport International Polo Series, Presented by Turkish Airlines. The match record stands nearly even with one win to each country, while USA has the slight advantage in total goals scored, 17 - 15. It will be up to USA to defend its title after reclaiming the perpetual cup in 2019. During the match, a curated selection of rare treasures will be offered to the highest bidder in an online auction to support Kia Ora Cosmic Ball beneficiary, Jeffrey Osborne Foundation. The Newport Polo Pro Shop will have the latest collection of official team sportswear, alongside other pop-up boutiques. The best mobile gourmets will be serving up mouthwatering fare, while Après Polo, join the players on the Pavilion Patio in the Modern Luxury Lounge for a complimentary Dark 'N Stormy, followed by the annual Lobsterfest (RSVP by Noon on 8/3).
The New Zealander's last full day in Newport will commence with a farewell brunch hosted by Team USA before taking in the shimmering waters around Newport with On Watch Sailing. ROCKSTAR Limo will then see the players off on their return trip, whether in victory or defeat, with new memories to last a lifetime.
