Opening Day of the Newport International Polo Series season 31 will be marked by the 36th nation to make its Polo Series debut, Colombia. Colombia enjoys a polo history stretching back 120 years, mostly concentrated in the nation's capital of Bogotá. According to the history of the Polo Club of Bogotá, Colombia's first polo club established in 1897, a Colombian-born Englishman was responsible for the sport taking hold. Colombia's naturally skilled horsemen were more than eager to adopt the technically and physically challenging sport, with the extensive grounds of their haciendas offering ready-made polo fields on their doorsteps. The equatorial location lends to ideal conditions for year-round polo and yields highly competitive players. Four players have been dispatched to vie for the newly minted USA vs. Colombia perpetual cup on June 4th, keeping it all in the family, including two cousins who are seasoned vets, and two siblings who are next-gen rising stars. Meet the players.
