Newport’s polo season will reach its social highlight in 2015 with Ball Carnaval, the Polo Club's 15th annual International Charity Ball on Friday, August 7 at Rosecliff, one of Newport’s famed Bellevue Avenue mansions. The annual black tie gala will fête guests of honor, the Brazilian Polo Team, with a Carnaval theme, and help Roger Williams Park Zoo in its plans to build a new tropical rain forest building this year. Live entertainment will include the return of last year's hugely popular dance orchestra, Decades by Design. After a highly successful fundraising collaboration with the Zoo in the past year, the Zoo was selected to be the beneficiary for a second time,” explained Dan Keating, Newport Polo Club President. In an unparalleled success, the sold-out '14 gala raised nearly $30,000 to support the Zoo’s mission of conservation and education. “We are very pleased to have this opportunity again,” announced Jeremy Goodman, Executive Director, Roger Williams Park Zoo. The evening begins with a cocktail & hors d'oeuvres reception on the terrace, where guests can contend for enticing Silent Auction items, overlooking stunning landscape & seascape of Rhode Island Sound. A seated gourmet dinner created by Blackstone will be presented in the (air conditioned) gilded ballroom before dancing the night away to live entertainment til the stroke of midnight.
Gala Dinner Tickets are $200 for cocktails & hors d’oeuvres, auction, seated dinner, after-dinner libations & dancing from 7:00pm-midnight. Patron Tables of 10 are $2,000 with premium table location, name plate & special decor and recognition on official event collateral. Seating is limited.
Cocktail Tickets are also available for dessert, cocktails & dancing from 9:30-midnight at $75/person.
Tickets can be purchased online until they sell out. For more information, please call 401-787-1768 for details. Must be 21 or older to attend, or accompanied by a parent or guardian. Proof of age is required.
The event is hosted by the Newport Polo Club, and proceeds from the evenings’ fundraising will benefit Roger Williams Park Zoo. Proxy bidding on live auction exclusives will be available (link is forthcoming to preview the live auction and/or download the Absentee Bidding Form).
The gala will take place at Rosecliff, 548 Bellevue Avenue in Newport, the premier estate amidst America’s finest collection of gilded age mansions. Commissioned by Nevada silver heiress Theresa Fair Oelrichs in 1899, architect Stanford White modeled Rosecliff after the Grand Trianon, the garden retreat of French kings at Versailles. After the house was completed in 1902, at a reported cost of $2.5 million, Mrs. Oelrichs hosted fabulous entertainments here, including a fairy tale dinner and a party featuring famed magician Harry Houdini.
The annual summer soiree, now in its 15th year, attracts bon vivants, polo enthusiasts & players from across the US and oversees for a weekend of festivities in the glamorous seaside resort. The celebration continues the following day, at the Newport International Polo Series where the featured match is USA vs. Brazil. Tickets to the match can be purchased in advance online, following our Calendar pages to the 8/8 match, or at the entry gates. After the match, our annual Lobsterbake will be the perfect conclusion of the weekend's events. Please check our Events tab for details and reservations, which are required in advance for the dinner.
